Dr. Carter’s medical assistant, Katherine, is running the Celebrate Life Half-Marathon this weekend! Celebrate Life Half-Marathon honors, remembers, and celebrates those who fight against cancer. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the race goes towards patients in treatment today to help offset unexpected costs and other financial burdens.

Katherine in running in celebration of her 14th anniversary of being cancer-free. As a childhood survivor of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, she is incredibly grateful for the love and support she and her family were shown that has lead to the opportunities and life she has today. Celebrate Life Half Marathon embodies the achievements Katherine can make today because of those who supported her then and allows her to pay her gratitude forward.

We will be sending Katherine warm thoughts as she runs 13.1 miles on Sunday in 30 degree weather and are so proud of her achievements! If you would like to learn more about Celebrate Life Half-Marathon or would like to support Katherine, please follow the included links.

Today is International Women’s Day! Over the past year, we have been reminded about the resilient strength of our worldwide sisterhood. Women poured out in the thousands to support each other in the 2018 Women’s March, and our sisters in Saudi Arabia gained the right to drive. Women of Hollywood and of Capitol Hill are deconstructing unequal policies in pursuit of a more just world and fair treatment of all employees. We honor the fight and sacrifices that our mothers and grandmothers endured so that we may inherit a more equal world. While there is still a long way to go, we celebrate the achievements this year has brought!

As women in medicine, the Carter Crew could not be more grateful to have a role model such as Dr. Carter. Everyday provides a new opportunity to learn and further our skills, and we are honored to have such fertile soil to grow. The alumni of Dr. Carter’s office are continuing to break open the glass ceiling, and we are so eager to join those tremendous women!

Is it too early to say “Happy Spring”? We have been so envious these past few days as our patients tell us about record-high temperatures and gleeful spring outings. The Carter Crew made sure to fill our weekend hiking with our furry friends, biking to Old Town Alexandria for a quick bite, and relaxing outside with a splendid picnic. Inside the office, you’ll be sure to see our decorating getting a little Irish just in time for St. Patrick’s Day!

While the office is still holding out for another snowfall, we hope that you and your loved ones are enjoying the warm weather. Soaking up the sun is definitely bringing us back to life after the frigid winter months, but we could not more strongly recommend everyone apply sunscreen! While we are always happy to see you in our office, we hope to avoid “fry now, pay later”!

Happy Valentine’s Day! This time of year reminds us the importance of love. In Dr. Carter’s office, we constantly see love in our patients and through the actions of their friends and family.

We see love in little moments, such as when a daughter holds her mother’s hand during a treatment, and in tough times, such as a best friend attending every appointment. We are inspired by grand stories about how a couple found each other by both trekking to D.C. to protest war, and we are hearted by traditions of daily walks after dinner to hear about each other’s day.

However you chose to celebrate Valentine’s Day, we hope you cherish those around you and share the love you are given.

We are so happy it’s February! Tomorrow on Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil will let us know if we have six more weeks of winter or an early spring. While we are looking forward to longer days and the sweet smell of spring, the Carter Crew is holding out for one more snowfall.

We are lucky to hear the stories our patients have shared with us about their winter season – whether enjoying the cold here in D.C. or traveling to warmer weather. These sweet stories of spending time with loved ones or trying out daring New Year’s Resolutions have made us smile, and we appreciate our patients sharing these memories with us. As we look forward to all the joy spring is holding for us, we hope that you will cherish the last of winter and celebrate the opportunities that 2018 brings!
