We are so proud of our medical assistant alumni, Kristen Suzich, for her work with Project Homeless Connect. As a third-year medical student at the University of Maryland, Kristen was able to volunteer during her Ophthalmology Rotation with Project Homeless Connect to help families and individuals facing homelessness receive medical exams and screenings. Beaming with pride! Way to go Kristen!

This year we would like to thank all of our patients, friends, and family members. We are so grateful to all of you!
This year we are also thankful for the many opportunities our office and staff have been given. Dr. Carter and Swathi had the amazing experience of volunteering their surgical skills in Dakar, Senegal; Lauren, Dahlia, Megan, MK, and Caitlin were blessed with admission to Med/NP/PA schools; and Dr. Carter was named a Washingtonian Top Doc for 2017!
We wish you all happy holidays, and look forward to seeing everyone in the office!
Dr. Carter and Staff

Today, we honor the brave veterans and members of the Armed Forces for their sacrifice that protects and serves the United States of America. This year alone, we have seen our troops continue to fight for democracy on foreign soil, support victims of natural disasters home and abroad, and diligently work to maintain our physical and cyber security. Because of their efforts, our families are safe at home, unrestricted by oppression, hunger, or fear. Because of their families’ sacrifices, our children can grow up to achieve anything they dream.

Dr. Mary Ella Carter is grateful for the opportunity to have been able to serve our veterans during her time on the surgical team at the Department of Veterans Affairs and continues to appreciate the service of her patients. Thank you, veterans and your families.

Dr. Carter is thrilled to announce our new partnership with the Allergan Brilliant Distinctions Program. Patients who enroll in this program will earn points for their Allergan product purchases (Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, etc.) that will be redeemable for savings at their next appointments. This exciting program is available at no cost to our patients, and points do not expire. Patients can register for Brilliant Distinctions online or in our office.

How does it work?

Dr. Carters patients will earn $10 in savings for every 100 points that they earn. As patients earn more points, they are eligible for bonus points and gifts from Allergan!

This October, we honor Breast Cancer Awareness. At least one in every eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Despite earlier detection and improved therapies, recent data shows that over 40,000 women still die from this disease annually.
Each year in October, we see a flurry of pink ribbons, posters and fundraisers – but what can we do on a daily basis to ensure that the fight continues year-round?

First and foremost, we must encourage mammograms. Current guidelines recommend that, for healthy women with no family history of breast cancer, mammograms should start by age 45. However, we know that breast cancer does not occur exclusively in those under the age of 45. This leads us to another important detection tactic, the self-exam. While the guidelines on this practice vary from source to source, the ultimate point is this: it is important to know what your breasts feel like in order to detect any obvious changes. Women are encouraged to begin this practice as early as 20 years old. By ensuring the women in your life are educated about these prevention measures, we can prevent breast cancer together.
