A huge congratulations is owed to my colleague and friend Dr. Samir Mardini on his incredible medical feat when he performed the first face transplant ever to be done at Mayo Clinic last week. The preparation time was immense over the past three years, and the surgery itself took 56 hours with a team of 60 hospital staff.

Dr. Mardini was two years behind me at Georgetown Medical School. We are ecstatic for him and this groundbreaking success.

Please take the time to read more about the story linked here. It is truly incredible.

It is a common misconception that there are only two options for breast cancer survivors following mastectomy… whether to have a reconstruction procedure or not. However, there is one key piece of information missing in that statement! Many women don’t realize that they can have more than one reconstruction surgery if they are not satisfied with the initial result.

The following link lays out what to expect from a plastic surgeon’s standpoint. It’s pretty interesting and always good to be informed about the different options and steps!

And wait… there’s yet another option that has recently picked up lots of momentum across the country… and we can totally see why!

The nonprofit organization called p.ink is changing the game. The organization runs on donations and their goal is to make breast cancer survivors feel even more beautiful and proud in their skin with the addition of a little ink. As their website states… “breast cancer doesn’t have to leave the last mark.” Check it out for yourself!! We are loving it.

Always with love,

Dr. Carter and staff

Love is in the air! Tis the season of hearts and kisses… and we think you should be your OWN Valentine. And on the topic of kisses…. we’ve got just the thing! Besides the chocolate ones that can be found just about anywhere in our office. 😉

Get your lips feeling luscious with some of our favorite products that have been very popular this fall. There are some myths about lip fillers and injections that may have you feeling hesitant, but we guarantee perfection! We don’t settle for anything less.

We recently have fallen in love with volbella, an FDA approved injection that promotes fullness in the lips and softening of lines around the mouth.

Attached here is an article that goes over what to expect from the injections! Get ready to pucker up, ladies.

Boy! Reading this article was like taking a breath of fresh air. In a society that is sometimes afraid to talk about the “d word” (death), B.J. Miller is totally breaking the mold. He has dedicated his life to helping others in the last stages of theirs…guiding many through something we all one day will experience and yet know very little about definitively. Talk about a true hero. Not only is he an accomplished doctor of palliative care, but he survived a tragic accident during his college years and lost three of his limbs as a result.  Have I sparked your interest yet??? I promise this article is worth your time.

Click here to read all about him. It just may change the way you look at things.

Have the most happy and relaxing weekend! Stay warm.

Signing off for now!

All our best,

Dr. Carter and her ladies

New Years is a gift as it allows us an annual opportunity to take stock of where we’ve been, and where we are in terms of our goals, hopes and dreams. It is a golden time to forgive ourselves for where we have fallen short, reorder our priorities, and recommit to the action steps needed to reach our goals! An important area that should never get overlooked is our self care; eating more healthily, exercising in enjoyable ways that gives us energy, and taking care of our skin. How your skin looks can be a direct indicator of how healthy we are feeling physically and emotionally! That’s just science, baby!

The time is now, friends. Out with the old, and in with the new, as they say. Let’s all add self care to the tip top of our resolution lists! The benefits are absolutely endless! The winter wear and its toll on our skin is in full swing, so there is no time like now to begin a skin care regimen that you want to flaunt! And if that means a little injection here or there, we won’t tell if you don’t.  😉

Can’t wait to see you! Have a wonderful start to your 2017.

All our love,

Dr. Carter and staff
