Guidance on COVID-19 Vaccine and Dermal Fillers
What a whirlwind of a year it has been! We are so grateful for the tireless efforts put towards the development of the COVID-19 vaccine, it seems like there is a light at the end of this tunnel. We encourage all those who are eligible to get the vaccine, but please be aware of potential side effects.
The Food and Drug Administration warns that the moderna vaccine may result in swelling and inflammation at the injection sites for those with facial fillers. It is important to note that this is a normal immune response to the vaccine and may be treated with steroids and antihistamines. The Aesthetic Society reports that this response only occurred in three patients nationwide, so the small number of reported cases should not stop you from getting the vaccine. Please reach out to our office for any further questions! We are still waiting for a statement from Allergan, our filler supplier, and will release that once received.
Wishing everyone a safe and healthy New Year!

We are blessed with such wonderful patients that continually make our holiday season even more joyful. We wish you all a cheery holiday season, wonderful time with family, and a much brighter new year.
COVID-19 Vaccine
Happy Wednesday! Hope all of you are staying safe and warm this snowy day. We are so grateful and wanted to recognize all of the amazing people who have been involved in the rapid production and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine – including the scientists, trial volunteers, FDA staff and distributors. This is a huge step for science that we are all witnessing and a part of.
Dr. Carter is in line to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and all of the team is wishing her the best!
Happy Veterans Day
This Veteran’s Day, we are especially thankful for our friends, family, and patients who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces. We admire their bravery and courage, and we strive to show our thanks today and every day. During these tumultuous times, we can further appreciate their commitment to fighting for peace and democracy. We would also like to thank the military families, who have sacrificed to support their veterans.
Dr. Mary Ella Carter is proud to be serving our veterans. She was previously part of the surgical team in the Department of Veterans Affairs, and she continues to care for veterans as patients at our DC practice. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you veterans!
We Believe in Pink!
“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.” — Audrey Hepburn
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Our thoughts and hearts are with our patients who have been affected by this disease. Dr. Carter has performed reconstructive surgery for many patients affected by breast cancer, and we are always stunned by their courage and positivity. We wanted to share the quote above, as we wholeheartedly agree– we believe in pink!
